Exclusive interview with Cody Deaner

Hi guys, I´m back with another exclusive interview, and this time I had a chance to spoke with the former TNA Star and independent professional wrestler, the one and only, Cody Deaner.

The Krupy : How you got into the wrestling business ?

Cody Deaner : „Dangerboy“ Derek Wylde was opening a wrestling school. I had been in contact with him about training. He eventually contacted me personally about training with him. He helped me get on local indies, and from there I just started wrestling wherever and whenever I could.

The Krupy : Who were some of your biggest influences for getting into the wrestling business ?

Cody Deaner : I was a Hulkamaniac growing up. I also looked up to Mick Foley, as I wasn’t the most in shape guy when I started wrestling. He was an inspiration for me. It was an honor to get to work with him later in my career in TNA.

The Krupy : What are you doing these days ?

Cody Deaner : I’m enjoying life as a husband and father. I’m also wrestling as much as I would like on the independent scene.

The Krupy : Who is your dream opponent ?

Cody Deaner : I never know how to answer this one. But, I think I’m going to have to say Shawn Michaels. Only because he’s probably the guy I’ve stolen from the most, most recently in my career.

The Krupy : Please tell us what some of your favourite matches have been from your career.

Cody Deaner : Too many to name. I’ve had some really great matches with Derek Wylde, Shawn Spears, Jake O’Reilly, and so many others on the independent level. I’m also quite proud of the PPV match I had with ODB before I left TNA.

The Krupy : Our readers can remember you from your TNA run in 2009. You became ODB´s manager, and you were placed into a

storyline with TNA Knockout´s Championship. What is your opinion on this storyline after all these years ?

Cody Deaner : People still talk about it. People ask me about it all the time. If people remember it, then it’s stuck with people. So, that’s a good thing. I’ve said this before in many interviews … I think they could have done much much more with the angle. I say that both because there was money in it and because working with ODB was so much fun.

The Krupy : What is your opinion on TNA under the leadership of Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff ?

Cody Deaner : I don’t watch the product religiously. But, I keep up with what my friends are doing because I care about their careers and want to see what they’re doing. They’re doing some things right, and some things wrong, in my opinion. I also think the numbers don’t lie. The ratings have not improved under the current leadership. So, they still have to catch their groove under the current regime. Hopefully they do. Both for the sake of my friends, and for wrestling as a whole. Wrestling is better and healthier all around when there is more than one big dog on the block.

The Krupy : Would you return to TNA ?

Cody Deaner : Under the right circumstances, yes. I wouldn’t take just any offer thrown at me. I’m not a desperate, starving indy wrestler anymore. So, if the money was right, absolutely.

The Krupy : You appeared on SmackDown in 2004, and you have faced the Olympic Gold Medailist Kurt Angle in a match for his gold medal. How it felt ?

Cody Deaner : It felt amazing. Wrestling in the same ring for the same company and many of my childhood heroes was quite an accomplishment.

The Krupy : Who is your favourite wrestler from WWE and TNA ?

Cody Deaner : Right now? I don’t watch enough WWE to say who I like to watch right now because I don’t watch it. The few things I’ve seen from Punk recently has been great though. And from TNA, definitely my boy Eric Young. Anything he touches turns to gold. Even if he’s handed a turd.

The Krupy : Do you have any tips for people that want to be a pro wrestlers ?

Cody Deaner : Go to school. Not just wrestling school. College. Have a second career option. Many people don’t make it in the business. And, even those that do, need something to do after their in ring career is done. Get an education.

The Krupy : What is the one thing that you hate on the wrestling business ?

Cody Deaner : People that get where they are because of things other than hard work and dedication.

The Krupy : Please choose a few words to describe these people :

Cody Deaner : ODB- Sweetheart. Unique. Talented.

Kurt Angle- Cyborg. Intense.

Edge- Fellow Canadian. Funny dude.

Eric Young – One of my best friends. Will do anything for his friends.

Lance Storm – Fellow Canadian. Proud of what he does.

Christian – Fellow Canadian! Another funny dude.

Bret Hart – FELLOW CANADIAN! A proud Canadian at that.

William Regal – NOT a fellow Canadian. A veteran that eat, sleeps, and craps wrestling.

The Krupy : So, WWE signs Cody Deaner, and it´s WrestleMania time. Who are you facing in the middle of the ring ?

Cody Deaner : Shawn Michaels. Or, Vince McMahon. I don’t care what anyone says. Vince is a HELL of a worker.

The Krupy : Is there something that you want to tell to our readers ?

Cody Deaner : Follow me on twitter @codydeaner. I always appreciate hearing from fans. I’m available for wrestling appearances at Giv’er!
