Exclusive interview with Davina Rose !

Hey guys, yours truly is back with another exclusive interview for Art Of Wrestling. This time, I spoke with one of the newest members of SHIMMER roster, Davina Rose :

The Krupy : How you got into wrestling business ?

Davina Rose : My home promotion is Big Time Wrestling out of Newark, CA. I started attending their shows as a kid, when I was 11 yrs old (which is when I already knew I wanted to be a wrestler some day). Once I turned 18 I talked to my head trainer, Jason Styles, and started attending the classes shortly after.

The Krupy : Please tell us what some of your favorite matches have been from your career ?

Davina Rose : I have a few favorites, and they’re all for different reasons. The first one that comes to mind was a mixed tag match with myself and Shane Kody vs. Buggy Nova and Shannon Ballard in 2010. I loved this match simply because of how fun it was. Shane Kody is the most popular wrestler for BTW and the crowd gets totally into everything he does, so it was awesome to be in the ring with the type of energy everyone felt for that match. Next would have to be a recent one which happened at SHIMMER this past March. It was me and Mia Yim vs. Ray and Leon from Japan. This was one of the most difficult and competitive matches I’ve ever had to wrestle in. It was also my first time working with Joshi girls so it was a very different style, which made it lots of fun. There are many more that include some single matches with Buggy, Yyan Nakano, and some tag matches with Sara Del Rey and Serena Deeb.

The Krupy : What are three professional goals for Davina Rose ?

Davina Rose : Being a part of SHIMMER was a huge goal of mine when I first got into wrestling, and I have been there twice now. Going to wrestle in Canada was also on my list when I first started, which I just did a couple weeks ago for the first time. I’m pretty content right now as far as goals go, but of course my number one goal is to get a contract by a major company. Another goal of mine would be to wrestle in Japan one day. But through all that, I want to be able to inspire girls who share the same dream of becoming a pro wrestler and to treat it and respect it as the great sport that it is.

The Krupy : Please tell us who trained you, and how long you have been wrestling professionally.

Davina Rose : I train every week with Big Time Wrestling, ran by promoter Kirk White. My head trainer is Jason Styles. He trained me from the ground up along with help of some of the other guys like Kimo Kanaloa, Shane Kody, Ryan Von Kool, Chico Navarro, Mike Silva, and Wildstorm. I started training in April of 2008, and had my first professional match in September 2008.

The Krupy : Who was your wrestling idol in childhood ?

Davina Rose : As far as males go, when I was a kid I loved Macho Man, The Rock, and The Hardy Boyz. For the women I was a huge fan of Lita and Ivory.

The Krupy : Who is your dream opponent ?

Davina Rose :  There are so many girls I would love to wrestle one day, both on TV and on the independent scene. Past and present! But if I had to choose one right now I would love to have a match with Ivory. I think it would be a great learning experience, very high energy and super competitive.

The Krupy : Would you rather go to WWE, or TNA and why ?

Davina Rose : It’s hard to say because I love different things about each of those companies and would love to work for either one. WWE has been my dream since I was a kid but I’m really happy with the way TNA treats their women’s division. That’s a tough question! =)

The Krupy : What is a day off like for Davina Rose ? Do you have any hobbies?

Davina Rose : Like everyone else, I enjoy time spent with family and friends. I have a 6 yr old nephew and baby cousins that I just love to be around. I like a lot of outdoor activities like hiking and play a lot of basketball (I played in high school). And lately I’ve been thinking about getting into some kind of MMA classes.

The Krupy : What is your opinion on the current decline of WWE Divas Division ? It´s just painful to watch.

Davina Rose : It’s sad to me because it used to be so good, and I believe it still can be very good because there are a lot of talented women in the locker room but they just don’t give them the opportunity. I’m hoping it will pick up soon. Don’t give up on them!

The Krupy : Choose a few words to best describe these people :

-          Cheerleader Melissa Very respected in the world of women’s wrestling

–          Beth Phoenix – Savior of the WWE divas

–          Madison Eagles – Very talented, my favorite ring music

–          Mickie James – Came a long way from when she first started. Better in TNA

–          Edge – One of my favorites! He has it all.

–          CM Punk – Game changer

–          Austin Aries Very different but cool mindset in the ring

The Krupy : How do you feel about making your debut for SHIMMER ?

Davina Rose : My SHIMMER debut was definitely the highlight of my career so far. I couldn’t have asked for more, especially wrestling against Mercedes Martinez in my first match there. I learned so much in such a short amount of time there. I love everything about the promotion and couldn’t have been happier being a part of the Serena Deeb/Portia Perez rivalry. I owe a big thanks to Serena for making that happen for me.

The Krupy : Do you have anything that you would like to say to your fans ?

Davina Rose : To any fans that choose to support me, thank you! I hope to keep you all entertained in different ways every time I step in the ring. Keep supporting women’s wrestling despite what you do or don’t like what you see on TV. Great wrestling is out there!
